The Extreme Mustang by Saleen Performance is known as the world`s fastest production Mustang. This 281 ci SOHC, twin-screw supercharged beast makes 550 horsepower, 500 lb-ft torque @ 4000 rpm, and is set up with Saleen`s Racecraft suspension. The Extreme rivals all competitors in the high performance pedigree including Corvette Z06, Ferrari 430, Porsche Carrera 911 and Dodge Viper SRT-10. The basic idea behind the Saleen Mustang S281 that debuted in 1996 is that it doesn’t look at all like a typical Mustang. The designation of the hyped-out Stang was simply…The Saleen Mustang. Changing the call sign to be identified by it’s 281 cubic inches is a really cool idea. But calling it “The Saleen 281 CID” is a long name. So the model became S281, S for Saleen.
